All right, pleased to be joined by Career Service Council President Lisa McNair and Vice
President Shatara Ritz.
00:00:08 Mark Barley
Ladies, welcome in.
00:00:09 Lisa McNair
Hey, everyone.
00:00:11 Mark Barley
All right, thanks for coming in.
00:00:14 Mark Barley
We're kind of wrapping up our shared governance arc here on the podcast.
00:00:19 Mark Barley
So as we dive in, Lisa, tell us who you are, how long you've been with the college, all about
you, and
00:00:30 Mark Barley
What is your day-to-day job?
00:00:31 Mark Barley
Because you're not just career service council president, you also do something else for
the college.
00:00:38 Lisa McNair
Well, I have been here for 24 years.
00:00:40 Lisa McNair
I started in health sciences, worked there for about 13 years, and then came over to CAT
and worked there for a couple of years.
00:00:48 Lisa McNairAnd now I'm in English.
00:00:49 Lisa McNair
So I'm.
00:00:50 Lisa McNair
What's CAT?
00:00:51 Lisa McNair
Center for Academic Technologies and Training.
00:00:55 Lisa McNair
That is no longer here.
00:00:58 Lisa McNair
And then I went over to the English department.
00:01:00 Lisa McNair
I love it there and I've had a great time there.
00:01:03 Lisa McNair
I do like working with faculty and students every day.
00:01:08 Lisa McNair
I also have been in several different areas, so I've gotten to know the college very well,
which is very good.
00:01:19 Lisa McNair
And I enjoy spending time with my family
00:01:28 Lisa McNair
I enjoy spending time with my family and I have 17 grandchildren, so I'm very busy most of
the time.
00:01:36 Mark Barley
How do you find time for 17 grandchildren?
00:01:40 Lisa McNairI'm just never sitting still.
00:01:42 Lisa McNair
You never sit still.
00:01:44 Mark Barley
That's a lot of grandchildren.
00:01:45 Lisa McNair
I took them clothes shopping this weekend at school.
00:01:48 Mark Barley
That's expensive.
00:01:49 Lisa McNair
Six of them all at one time was definitely a challenge.
00:01:53 Lisa McNair
But I had a great time with them.
00:01:55 Lisa McNair
But I intend on going into drop at the end of this year.
00:01:58 Mark Barley
Oh, really?
00:01:58 Lisa McNair
And then I'll do probably 6 of the eight years.
00:02:01 Mark Barley
Okay.
00:02:02 Mark Barley
A little breaking news here on the podcast.
00:02:06 Lisa McNair
I'm ready.
00:02:07 Mark BarleySo, Lisa, what brought you to the college?
00:02:10 Mark Barley
24 years ago, what brought you to the college?
00:02:11 Lisa McNair
Well, I worked for Culligan Water.
00:02:13 Lisa McNair
Hey, Culligan, man.
00:02:15 Lisa McNair
And they went out of business in Gainesville.
00:02:18 Lisa McNair
And I had a friend that worked for the college who encouraged me to apply.
00:02:22 Lisa McNair
And I did and I got the job and I'm super happy that I did.
00:02:26 Lisa McNair
It took me a long time.
00:02:27 Lisa McNair
Like I started in October and finally was hired in January.
00:02:30 Mark Barley
Well, you know, we always say here at Santa Fe, nothing moves fast.
00:02:34 Lisa McNair
Nothing moves fast.
00:02:35 Lisa McNair
But it did happen and I'm very thankful that I have been here the entire time.
00:02:39 Mark Barley
All right.
00:02:40 Mark BarleyShatara.
00:02:41 Mark Barley
Tell us a little about you and your winding Rd.
00:02:44 Mark Barley
here at Santa Fe.
00:02:46 Cheetara Ritz
So I started at Santa Fe, gosh, I think it was 12 or 13 years ago.
00:02:53 Cheetara Ritz
I started in the zoo.
00:02:55 Cheetara Ritz
I was a zoo receptionist and actually I am a zooie.
00:02:58 Cheetara Ritz
I graduated from the zoo program in May 2010.
00:03:03 Cheetara Ritz
So it was really nice to come back.
00:03:05 Cheetara Ritz
The actual old advisor
00:03:07 Cheetara Ritz
Miss Linda Asbell, she actually worked at the animal hospital in Newberry that I worked at.
00:03:13 Cheetara Ritz
And she came in, she basically recruited me and was like, she brought her dog in and she
was like, hey, we have an opening.
00:03:18 Cheetara Ritz
Do you want to come back?
00:03:19 Cheetara Ritz
And I was like, yeah, cool.00:03:20 Cheetara Ritz
So I came back to the zoo.
00:03:22 Cheetara Ritz
I was actually at that time, I was Temp Force, which is currently Spherion right now.
00:03:28 Cheetara Ritz
They changed their name.
00:03:30 Cheetara Ritz
I don't know how many years ago.
00:03:32 Cheetara Ritz
But so I was hired on Temp Force and I did that for 4 1/2 years and marked that
00:03:37 Cheetara Ritz
That's actually where we met.
00:03:38 Cheetara Ritz
I've known Mark the whole entire time I've been at Santa Fe.
00:03:43 Cheetara Ritz
And I had to get police escorts up to the cashier's office at the end of the day.
00:03:47 Cheetara Ritz
So I did that for 4 1/2 years.
00:03:49 Cheetara Ritz
And in the meantime, I was trying to get into Santa Fe College as a full-time employee to
take advantage of the benefits.
00:03:56 Cheetara Ritz
I do have a son.
00:03:57 Cheetara Ritz
And I was like, hey, the benefits are great.
00:03:59 Cheetara RitzNot to mention I could get a free education for him.
00:04:02 Cheetara Ritz
So I tried.
00:04:03 Cheetara Ritz
I tried for like, I tried for a couple of years.
00:04:06 Cheetara Ritz
I got rejected
00:04:07 Cheetara Ritz
did a whole lot.
00:04:08 Cheetara Ritz
And then one day I was talking to Mike Christie because him and Thomas would come in
and do a bunch of stuff.
00:04:14 Cheetara Ritz
And he was like, hey, we got an opening on the moving crew.
00:04:17 Cheetara Ritz
Do you want to, you know, do you want to come and work on our moving crew?
00:04:20 Cheetara Ritz
I was like, dude, have you seen me?
00:04:22 Cheetara Ritz
I can't move anything.
00:04:23 Cheetara Ritz
And he was like, no, you know, we'll teach you how to do things, yada, yada, yada.
00:04:28 Cheetara Ritz
He's like, there's never been a girl on the moving crew.
00:04:30 Cheetara Ritz
It would be great.00:04:31 Cheetara Ritz
And I was like, okay.
00:04:32 Cheetara Ritz
So
00:04:32 Cheetara Ritz
I applied, actually got that job.
00:04:35 Cheetara Ritz
So it was me, Mike, and Thomas.
00:04:37 Cheetara Ritz
We would drive around in the moving truck, me being sitting in the middle.
00:04:42 Cheetara Ritz
I loved, loved, loved being on the moving career, working in facilities.
00:04:46 Cheetara Ritz
I love facilities.
00:04:48 Cheetara Ritz
Love all the people there.
00:04:50 Cheetara Ritz
And then I decided to apply to the admin assistant position in the admissions office.
00:04:57 Cheetara Ritz
working under Dan Rodkin.
00:04:59 Cheetara Ritz
And so I applied to that.
00:05:01 Cheetara Ritz
I actually got it.
00:05:02 Cheetara Ritz
was hilarious.00:05:03 Cheetara Ritz
Dan brought me up to his office.
00:05:05 Cheetara Ritz
I've known Dan for a really long time.
00:05:07 Cheetara Ritz
Our kids were in Cub Scouts together.
00:05:09 Cheetara Ritz
And he brought me in his office and he was like, so, you know, he sat me down.
00:05:13 Cheetara Ritz
I'm thinking he's gonna tell me that I didn't get the job.
00:05:15 Cheetara Ritz
So he hands me this folder.
00:05:17 Cheetara Ritz
He was like,
00:05:18 Cheetara Ritz
So, we want to offer you the job.
00:05:20 Cheetara Ritz
And I was like, really?
00:05:21 Cheetara Ritz
You do?
00:05:22 Cheetara Ritz
He was like, yeah.
00:05:23 Cheetara Ritz
And we started laughing because I really thought he was going to say, no, sorry, you don't
get the job.
00:05:28 Cheetara RitzBut so I've been in the admissions office for seven years.
00:05:31 Cheetara Ritz
Love the admissions office.
00:05:34 Cheetara Ritz
I'm a little biased.
00:05:35 Cheetara Ritz
Admissions office, I think, is one of the best departments.
00:05:37 Cheetara Ritz
I do love the zoo.
00:05:38 Cheetara Ritz
I do love facilities.
00:05:40 Cheetara Ritz
But admissions, I've been there for seven years.
00:05:41 Cheetara Ritz
Love my people.
00:05:44 Cheetara Ritz
And so, that's kind of where I'm at right now.
00:05:47 Cheetara Ritz
And with the new C4 study, I'm now the senior admin assistant.
00:05:53 Cheetara Ritz
Okay.
00:05:53 Cheetara Ritz
Right.
00:05:53 Mark Barley
Full pay bump.
00:05:54 Cheetara RitzExactly, a pay grade.
00:05:57 Cheetara Ritz
So yeah, so that's my story about Santa Fe.
00:06:00 Mark Barley
Yeah.
00:06:01 Mark Barley
It's interesting how, you know, we can have such winding, you know, ways to where we get,
and like you've been there seven years, you know, is
00:06:14 Mark Barley
is this where you envision finishing?
00:06:17 Mark Barley
Are you still, I know I'm putting you on the spot a little bit, but like, so you've kind of moved
around, right?
00:06:26 Mark Barley
But I would say that you've probably made the places you've been better just because you
have this infectious personality and all this.
00:06:34 Mark Barley
So is admissions the place where you foresee yourself
00:06:40 Mark Barley
kind of settling in.
00:06:41 Mark Barley
I mean, seven years is a long time.
00:06:43 Cheetara Ritz
So I love Santa Fe for a few different reasons.
00:06:46 Cheetara Ritz
One of the things I love about Santa Fe is if you know me, you know that I am really bad
ADD and I get bored kind of easy.00:06:55 Cheetara Ritz
And so like I love the fact that I can move around into different departments, right?
00:07:00 Cheetara Ritz
I love admissions.
00:07:03 Cheetara Ritz
So leaving admissions
00:07:05 Cheetara Ritz
Even thinking about leaving admissions makes me sad.
00:07:08 Cheetara Ritz
I have grown to love everybody in admissions.
00:07:11 Cheetara Ritz
I have my little work bestie, Lauren, shout out to Lauren.
00:07:15 Cheetara Ritz
We are very codependent.
00:07:17 Cheetara Ritz
We like literally go everywhere together.
00:07:19 Cheetara Ritz
So I can't imagine leaving admissions, but at the same time, I do want to, right?
00:07:25 Cheetara Ritz
I want to work up.
00:07:27 Cheetara Ritz
I don't want to go too far up the ladder because obviously you do that.
00:07:30 Cheetara Ritz
You get way more responsibilities.
00:07:32 Cheetara Ritz
I only want certain responsibilities.00:07:34 Cheetara Ritz
I don't want all
00:07:35 Cheetara Ritz
other responsibilities.
00:07:36 Cheetara Ritz
So I think maybe another department in the future.
00:07:40 Cheetara Ritz
Do I know where that is?
00:07:41 Cheetara Ritz
I have no idea.
00:07:43 Cheetara Ritz
Santa Fe keeps changing when I think I want one department, then something happens in
that department.
00:07:48 Cheetara Ritz
I'm like, nope, don't want to go there.
00:07:50 Cheetara Ritz
So it just kind of depends on where we're at.
00:07:54 Cheetara Ritz
And also too, it depends on the person I would be working under, right?
00:07:58 Cheetara Ritz
I've had amazing bosses.
00:08:00 Cheetara Ritz
I really have loved each and every person I've worked under right now.
00:08:04 Cheetara Ritz
I love my current boss, which is Quentin.
00:08:07 Cheetara RitzAbsolutely loved him, loved working under Dan, loved working at facilities.
00:08:12 Cheetara Ritz
So it's really, really dependent for me because at the end of the day, yes, I need money, but
00:08:19 Cheetara Ritz
It's not all about the money, right?
00:08:21 Cheetara Ritz
It's about the people and about what kind of environment am I gonna be in.
00:08:25 Cheetara Ritz
I will not be in a toxic environment.
00:08:27 Cheetara Ritz
My motto is if I'm not having fun at work, then I'm doing something wrong.
00:08:32 Cheetara Ritz
I don't love all of my job, obviously, because I don't think everybody does, right?
00:08:36 Cheetara Ritz
So I'm not having fun all the time.
00:08:39 Cheetara Ritz
But I think for the most part, I try to have fun.
00:08:42 Cheetara Ritz
So yeah, so maybe somewhere, another department.
00:08:45 Mark Barley
Yeah.
00:08:46 Mark Barley
I mean, it's, you know, it's
00:08:48 Mark Barley
Santa Fe's always got those open doors, right?
00:08:50 Mark BarleyAnd that's one of the great things about Santa Fe is the fact that somebody can be in one
department, for a little bit and then say, hey, I kind of want to try my hand at this.
00:09:03 Mark Barley
And Santa Fe's receptive to that.
00:09:05 Mark Barley
And that's really cool.
00:09:07 Mark Barley
Lisa, tell us about career service.
00:09:10 Mark Barley
What is career service?
00:09:12 Mark Barley
We talked about shared governance.
00:09:13 Mark Barley
Tell us a little bit about your role in the Career Service Council.
00:09:18 Mark Barley
What career service does the employees that fit under career service?
00:09:25 Mark Barley
And then what is your job as president?
00:09:29 Lisa McNair
Okay, so career services are hourly employees at the college, and we have a few that are
exempt that are still career service.
00:09:37 Lisa McNair
We serve probably around 253 employees and we call ourselves a team because we all like
to work together.
00:09:46 Lisa McNair
We also for the shared governance we are your voice.
00:09:51 Lisa McNairWe are the one you come to when you have problems or if there's something that you want
to see better we can try to make it better for everyone.
00:10:00 Lisa McNair
We try to make it a team so everyone feels safe coming in and speaking to us and then we'll
take it up higher
00:10:07 Lisa McNair
no names, of course.
00:10:09 Lisa McNair
We always try to keep everything confidential.
00:10:12 Lisa McNair
We attend the board meeting.
00:10:13 Lisa McNair
We attend the coordinating council and the cabinet meetings.
00:10:16 Lisa McNair
So we get good information that we can give out.
00:10:19 Lisa McNair
We also have invited HR to attend our meetings now.
00:10:24 Lisa McNair
So we're getting good, clear information, more transparency.
00:10:28 Lisa McNair
So our members are felt more valued
00:10:33 Lisa McNair
because they are getting better information.
00:10:36 Lisa McNair
And our C4 study was wonderful.
00:10:39 Lisa McNairIt didn't promote everyone, but now we have given everyone a place where they can be
promoted.
00:10:46 Lisa McNair
So I think that that's a lot of what our career service team does.
00:10:51 Mark Barley
Yeah.
00:10:52 Mark Barley
So, Shatara, how
00:10:55 Mark Barley
your role as vice president.
00:10:57 Mark Barley
What is that?
00:10:58 Mark Barley
How does it support Lisa?
00:11:00 Mark Barley
How do you amplify voices?
00:11:03 Mark Barley
Kind of explain your role in career service.
00:11:05 Cheetara Ritz
So I think for my role is I support Lisa and we kind of when Lisa and I first started, it was
kind of one of those things where we wanted to
00:11:18 Cheetara Ritz
be a real team, me and her.
00:11:20 Cheetara Ritz
So wherever we went, whatever meetings we went to, we went together so that we could
not only show Lisa, but also me as well.
00:11:29 Cheetara RitzAnd then if Lisa can't make something, then I go ahead and do it.
00:11:33 Cheetara Ritz
I try to do what I can for her and take things off of her plate.
00:11:37 Cheetara Ritz
But I think we, I'm trying to think of the word, we bounce a lot of ideas off of each other.
00:11:44 Cheetara Ritz
And so we talk a lot about
00:11:46 Cheetara Ritz
things together, just me and her, what do we think about this and how is this gonna affect
people and what are your thoughts on this?
00:11:54 Cheetara Ritz
And we might not always agree, which is fine, but we both understand each other.
00:12:01 Cheetara Ritz
I think Lisa and I have a really, really great relationship and I'm very thankful that she is the
president and that we have this relationship that we have.
00:12:12 Mark Barley
Yeah, it's the dynamic is pretty cool is because at least you're a little bit more reserved,
right?
00:12:19 Mark Barley
Yes, very.
00:12:20 Mark Barley
And then, you got Shatara who's coming in, like a tornado.
00:12:24 Lisa McNair
That I have to calm down a lot.
00:12:25 Mark Barley
And so, but like that's cool is because you can, you know each other and so you can play
off that dynamic, right?00:12:36 Mark Barley
If it's something that needs to be vocalized,
00:12:39 Mark Barley
I'm probably turning to you, Shitar, right?
00:12:40 Mark Barley
I'm, because I've seen I've seen you interact.
00:12:43 Mark Barley
I've seen I've seen how you handle business, right?
00:12:48 Mark Barley
When it comes time to maybe talk about hard things, right?
00:12:52 Mark Barley
Talk about things that you're advocating for or you know others are advocating for.
00:12:57 Mark Barley
And that's why I think that this dynamic as a team, right?
00:13:00 Mark Barley
And that's why I asked both of you to come on is because I kind of know that you all are,
you are a team.
00:13:06 Mark Barley
But it's something that I don't think is present in college Senate, right?
00:13:11 Mark Barley
I don't know the complete, across the board for all the college Senate representatives, but
I don't think that they have the dynamic that you two have, right.
00:13:23 Lisa McNair
I don't.
00:13:23 Cheetara Ritz
Think so.00:13:24 Cheetara Ritz
And I don't really know because I can't speak on that.
00:13:28 Cheetara Ritz
But so it's just really funny because like you said, Lisa and I will be in a meeting and Lisa
will give me like little cues and little signs sometimes.
00:13:38 Cheetara Ritz
And also too, it's funny because Lisa is like my
00:13:41 Cheetara Ritz
my security blanket during certain times.
00:13:43 Cheetara Ritz
So like I chair salary and benefits.
00:13:45 Cheetara Ritz
And so she comes with me when I have to present to ELT, which for me, which it's funny,
people wouldn't realize this, but I get really bad anxiety when I am like sitting, trying to
present something that is so scary to me.
00:14:01 Cheetara Ritz
And so I have a little like worry rock and worry stone that I rub.
00:14:05 Cheetara Ritz
And Lisa will be like, did you bring your rock?
00:14:07 Cheetara Ritz
Did you bring your stone?
00:14:09 Cheetara Ritz
I'm gonna bring you mints.
00:14:10 Cheetara Ritz
And then
00:14:11 Cheetara RitzAnd she'll like, I'll look at her and just, I can just look at her and she'll know that there's a
problem and she'll pick Ray up for me.
00:14:18 Cheetara Ritz
So I mean, it's great.
00:14:20 Cheetara Ritz
We have a great dynamic.
00:14:22 Mark Barley
My wife has a little worried Jesus.
00:14:24 Mark Barley
That's a little Jesus figure that she keeps in her ******* head.
00:14:26 Cheetara Ritz
I've seen those.
00:14:27 Cheetara Ritz
I've seen those all over.
00:14:30 Mark Barley
So how, so you kind of touched on it, but you didn't, shared governance.
00:14:37 Mark Barley
How does you,
00:14:39 Mark Barley
career service fit into shared governance?
00:14:42 Mark Barley
You said it's the body of employees, the hourly employees, but talk a little bit about how
decisions are made at the college and how career service plays into larger decisions of the
entire college, the ramifications from decisions that are made.
00:15:00 Lisa McNair
Well, when we attend the meetings with Dr.
00:15:03 Lisa McNairBroadie, he always asks
00:15:05 Lisa McNair
how Career Services is doing.
00:15:06 Lisa McNair
He always asked, what do we need?
00:15:08 Lisa McNair
How can we make things better?
00:15:10 Lisa McNair
So we work a lot with the ELT and all the RPC.
00:15:16 Lisa McNair
And the RPC.
00:15:18 Mark Barley
Okay, so ELT, Executive Leadership Team, right?
00:15:20 Mark Barley
All the vice presidents, and then the RPC.
00:15:23 Cheetara Ritz
Is Resource Planning Council.
00:15:25 Lisa McNair
They're the ones who actually take our ideas and make them real.
00:15:29 Lisa McNair
They're.
00:15:30 Cheetara Ritz
The ones that came up with the strategic plan.
00:15:32 Mark Barley
Okay,
00:15:35 Mark BarleySo why did you two decide to originally run?
00:15:40 Mark Barley
Because this is your second, you're going to do your second year, right?
00:15:44 Mark Barley
You originally ran, and we, it was unopposed, right?
00:15:49 Mark Barley
But we still put our names on ballots, right?
00:15:51 Lisa McNair
We do, we do.
00:15:53 Mark Barley
You got to put the name on the ballot to get elected.
00:15:55 Lisa McNair
You never know.
00:15:56 Lisa McNair
Someone else may want to do this job.
00:15:59 Mark Barley
Talk about, Lisa, talk about the decision to step into or attempt to step into this role and
why you made that decision.
00:16:08 Lisa McNair
Okay, so when I first started at Santa Fe, I have always been a part of career service.
00:16:13 Lisa McNair
Not as much as I am now, but I've always been on certain committees like since the
beginning, so 2003.
00:16:21 Lisa McNair
And then Rose ran and they needed a vice president.
00:16:24 Lisa McNairSo I was like, okay, I'll try it.
00:16:27 Lisa McNair
And then Rose decided she didn't want to be president anymore because she had been five
or six years.
00:16:32 Lisa McNair
So she was ready to take a step back.
00:16:36 Lisa McNair
So then I was like, well, I'll go ahead and try.
00:16:39 Lisa McNair
And it worked out very well because I love being the president of Career Service.
00:16:42 Lisa McNair
I like hearing from people.
00:16:44 Lisa McNair
I like trying to solve problems that I can.
00:16:47 Lisa McNair
And Shatara has been my right hand.
00:16:49 Lisa McNair
She helps me.
00:16:50 Lisa McNair
We talk
00:16:51 Lisa McNair
and then we decide which things definitely need to go up, which of them we can kind of
solve without having to take them farther up the ladder.
00:16:59 Lisa McNair
Sure, yeah.
00:16:59 Mark BarleyShatara, same question for you.
00:17:01 Mark Barley
Why step into it with Lisa?
00:17:03 Mark Barley
And I guess as an aside, why
00:17:10 Mark Barley
You talk about Rose was in it for finance.
00:17:11 Mark Barley
Rose Christie.
00:17:13 Cheetara Ritz
She was in it for like 8 years, dude.
00:17:15 Mark Barley
I think it was like forever.
00:17:17 Mark Barley
So obviously you have your own goals, right?
00:17:20 Mark Barley
You have your own things that you want to see come to fruition in career service.
00:17:25 Mark Barley
Talk a little bit about deciding to link up with Lisa and then what your goals, what I guess
the team goals are for career service.
00:17:32 Cheetara Ritz
So this is really funny.
00:17:34 Cheetara Ritz
So basically it was
00:17:37 Cheetara Ritz
It was, Lisa was like, hey, I'm gonna be president.00:17:42 Cheetara Ritz
You wanna be my vice president?
00:17:43 Cheetara Ritz
And I was like, that literally, Lisa was like, you can be my vice president.
00:17:48 Cheetara Ritz
I was like, okay, all right, cuz I'm not gonna be president.
00:17:52 Cheetara Ritz
There's no way on God's green earth I wanna be president.
00:17:54 Cheetara Ritz
And Lisa was like, well then you can be vice president.
00:17:56 Cheetara Ritz
I'm like, okay, no problem.
00:17:58 Cheetara Ritz
And I was a treasurer for, I don't even know how many years I was a treasurer.
00:18:02 Cheetara Ritz
And so when I started in career service, it was kind of like I wanted to dip my toes in and
figure things out.
00:18:07 Cheetara Ritz
I knew I wanted to be at Santa Fe for a long time.
00:18:11 Cheetara Ritz
And so I became treasurer and I'm also really nosy.
00:18:14 Cheetara Ritz
If you know me, I'm nosy.
00:18:16 Cheetara Ritz
I want to know what's going on.
00:18:18 Cheetara RitzAnd I have all these questions and stuff like that.
00:18:21 Cheetara Ritz
And I figured that was the best thing was to join career service.
00:18:24 Cheetara Ritz
So then as treasurer, I was that for a while and then decided to be vice president.
00:18:30 Cheetara Ritz
And it just kind of turned into at the start, you know, advocating for
00:18:35 Cheetara Ritz
Spherion, temp force at time, temp force employees, because when I was temp force, I
was temp force at the zoo, like I said, for 4 1/2 years, there were a lot of things that really
bothered me.
00:18:48 Cheetara Ritz
I also got discriminated against by a Santa Fe College employee.
00:18:52 Cheetara Ritz
She was absolutely awful to me, made me cry.
00:18:56 Cheetara Ritz
I was so mad.
00:18:56 Cheetara Ritz
I didn't cry because I was sad, dude.
00:18:58 Cheetara Ritz
I was crying because I was so mad and I didn't know what to do.
00:19:02 Cheetara Ritz
And I was like, nobody should ever be treated like that.
00:19:05 Cheetara Ritz
And so I was like, I'm going to advocate for them.
00:19:07 Cheetara RitzThen it went into, I want to advocate for my people, my career service people.
00:19:11 Cheetara Ritz
And so now when I say my people, I'm talking about career service.
00:19:15 Cheetara Ritz
Career service employees are my people and I want to
00:19:18 Cheetara Ritz
for them and so that's kind of why I just keep going and I think that that's why we Lisa and I
have so much passion is we want to advocate for us and for everybody and I think the goals
for us is like what she said is to not only advocate for so many things that we feel is
necessary but also to we talk about things that like
00:19:41 Cheetara Ritz
Is this something that we really need to push for?
00:19:43 Cheetara Ritz
Is this something we really need to advocate for?
00:19:45 Cheetara Ritz
Can we dial back a little bit?
00:19:47 Cheetara Ritz
Like what is the most important thing, right?
00:19:48 Cheetara Ritz
Because I tell you what, I'm gonna fight for everything.
00:19:51 Cheetara Ritz
If you know me, I will fight for every single thing.
00:19:54 Cheetara Ritz
But I also, but because Lisa's with me, Lisa's like, dude, we can't fight for everything.
00:19:59 Cheetara Ritz
We can only fight for this, and this.
00:20:01 Cheetara RitzYou know, so she brings me down a notch when I'm like, you know, wanting to, you know,
throw down and fight for everything.
00:20:10 Mark Barley
It's a good segue into what are some of the current big issues that you see?
00:20:17 Mark Barley
see here at the college, especially as it impacts the career service faction of employees?
00:20:25 Mark Barley
And how do you plan to kind of tackle those?
00:20:30 Lisa McNair
The morale in the college is down.
00:20:32 Lisa McNair
It's pretty low.
00:20:34 Lisa McNair
And a lot of it is because of the salaries.
00:20:39 Lisa McNair
And the economy is getting so bad now.
00:20:42 Lisa McNair
And we would like to try to make their morale better.
00:20:45 Lisa McNair
The C4 study has helped a little.
00:20:47 Lisa McNair
with that which is great because we very much appreciate the C4 study we also we like to
make sure that everybody has transparency so that's why Dr.
00:20:58 Lisa McNair
Broadie when he comes we make sure if he's going to explain something we need him to
explain it on you know a level where we all can understand and not just like the CFOunderstands sure so and the transparency from HR this is how things work we need to
know from start to finish how things work so we're advocating for our
00:21:17 Lisa McNair
service people to try to get the most transparency we can, then the most information.
00:21:23 Lisa McNair
So a lot of questions are answered so we don't have rumors that get started.
00:21:28 Lisa McNair
And then things start to go crazy.
00:21:30 Mark Barley
Yeah.
00:21:31 Mark Barley
Shatara, same question.
00:21:32 Mark Barley
What are some of the current issues in your opinion?
00:21:35 Cheetara Ritz
So I definitely agree with everything that Lisa said.
00:21:40 Cheetara Ritz
And you know, for me, I think it's about
00:21:44 Cheetara Ritz
having upper management realize the reality of things, right?
00:21:49 Cheetara Ritz
I think we get so lost in so many different things that we're not really understanding, the
reality of things.
00:21:57 Cheetara Ritz
And the reality is that you've got the worker bees and the worker bees are working really
hard and then you've got inflation and that's really taken a toll on the worker bees.
00:22:09 Cheetara RitzAnd so I don't think it's anything's done on purpose.
00:22:12 Cheetara Ritz
I think it's just,
00:22:14 Cheetara Ritz
you just kind of get lost in everything, right?
00:22:17 Cheetara Ritz
You get lost in the politics.
00:22:18 Cheetara Ritz
You get lost in so many different things.
00:22:20 Cheetara Ritz
And for me, it's about, bringing that reality into people.
00:22:25 Cheetara Ritz
And so when you hear me talk and, when I'm doing coffee chats and stuff with Dr.
00:22:30 Cheetara Ritz
Broadie, I'm very real with Dr.
00:22:31 Cheetara Ritz
Broadie.
00:22:32 Cheetara Ritz
So I think it's really, really important that he understands, you know what I'm saying?
00:22:36 Cheetara Ritz
And also to, what is going on the front lines at the college, right?
00:22:41 Cheetara Ritz
because upper management doesn't know they're busy, they're doing what they've got to
do.
00:22:45 Cheetara Ritz
You know what I'm saying?00:22:46 Cheetara Ritz
They don't know what's going on.
00:22:48 Cheetara Ritz
And if we don't tell them, they won't know.
00:22:51 Cheetara Ritz
So if you don't tell them something, they're not going to know.
00:22:53 Cheetara Ritz
And, you know, communication and transparency is key, right?
00:22:57 Cheetara Ritz
To not having rumors and assumptions running around the college, which that's what
happens, right?
00:23:03 Cheetara Ritz
When you don't know the whole truth and there's no communication
00:23:06 Cheetara Ritz
transparency, you start assuming things.
00:23:08 Cheetara Ritz
We all know what happens when you assume things.
00:23:10 Cheetara Ritz
I won't say it because it's got a little cuss word in it.
00:23:13 Cheetara Ritz
But anyways, and I chair a salary and benefits committee.
00:23:16 Cheetara Ritz
So it's important to me that I'm bringing what the career service employees want to ELT.
00:23:26 Cheetara Ritz
And when I go into ELT, I mean, Lisa can tell you I'm very real with ELT.
00:23:31 Cheetara RitzI'm very direct with ELT.
00:23:32 Cheetara Ritz
I try to be as honest as I can.
00:23:35 Cheetara Ritz
obviously without getting into trouble.
00:23:37 Cheetara Ritz
That's why I have Lisa to make sure I don't get in trouble.
00:23:41 Cheetara Ritz
But if you know me, you know I'm a direct person.
00:23:44 Cheetara Ritz
You know, I'm honest and I expect that back.
00:23:49 Cheetara Ritz
I expect you to be direct and honest with me.
00:23:51 Cheetara Ritz
And most people want direct and they want honest.
00:23:55 Cheetara Ritz
They don't want you to beat around the bush and give them lip service.
00:23:58 Cheetara Ritz
They want what is, you know, tell me the truth.
00:24:00 Cheetara Ritz
It drives me bonkers when somebody, you know, beats around the bush
00:24:04 Cheetara Ritz
gives me lip service.
00:24:05 Cheetara Ritz
Like I get very upset about that because I can handle the truth.
00:24:09 Cheetara RitzWe're all adults.
00:24:10 Cheetara Ritz
Just give me the facts, And so just advocating, things that I feel like are real world issues,
like competitive salaries, right?
00:24:20 Cheetara Ritz
Creating better work environments, right?
00:24:22 Cheetara Ritz
Like Lisa said, morale is kind of low, right?
00:24:25 Cheetara Ritz
So let's try to create better work environments.
00:24:28 Cheetara Ritz
There's so many things that I think that we can be doing
00:24:33 Cheetara Ritz
And we're definitely, I feel like we're moving kind of forward in the right direction.
00:24:41 Cheetara Ritz
Obviously, I know it's gonna be slow and take some time, but we're moving in, I feel we are
moving in the right direction.
00:24:49 Cheetara Ritz
Now, obviously, I want to get from zero to 60 in two seconds, because that's my
personality.
00:24:55 Cheetara Ritz
So I have to realize that, you know, things take time.
00:24:59 Lisa McNair
And I'm the slower one, of course.
00:25:01 Cheetara Ritz
Yeah, I'm like, I'm like, go, what I'm saying?
00:25:04 Cheetara RitzLike, I'm like, I'm a race car driver.
00:25:07 Cheetara Ritz
I'm ready to go, So when I say I want, all these things done, and they're taking so long to do,
it can be a little, frustrating for me because I don't have any patience.
00:25:18 Cheetara Ritz
But I have to understand that I have to have patience.
00:25:20 Cheetara Ritz
We all have to have patience.
00:25:22 Cheetara Ritz
We do.
00:25:24 Cheetara Ritz
You know, patience
00:25:25 Cheetara Ritz
is very frustrating, but we all have to have it, and I want to, make known the appreciation
that I have for the changes that have been made.
00:25:34 Cheetara Ritz
I don't want to sit here and say, oh, we need to do this, and these are all the problems that
the college has, right?
00:25:39 Cheetara Ritz
We all know the problems that the college has, but I also want to take time to appreciate
the things that the college has done for us and what has been done, the C4 study, right?
00:25:50 Cheetara Ritz
You know, since I've been chair of salary and benefits, there has been little pieces of
00:25:55 Cheetara Ritz
recommendations that are getting done.
00:25:57 Cheetara Ritz
Right now, what did we get?00:25:58 Cheetara Ritz
We got to raise it was $1,000 or 2% for your increase, right?
00:26:04 Cheetara Ritz
So I did the math because my job is a bunch of numbers.
00:26:08 Cheetara Ritz
50,000, if you made $50,000 or more, you got 2%.
00:26:11 Cheetara Ritz
Anything under that, you got 1,000.
00:26:13 Cheetara Ritz
In our salary benefits recommendations, we put that we wanted the 3% and a minimum of
$1,000.
00:26:22 Cheetara Ritz
Now they gave that to us.
00:26:24 Cheetara Ritz
So we have to
00:26:25 Cheetara Ritz
they're little wins and we have to realize we are getting little wins.
00:26:29 Cheetara Ritz
It's not like we're getting complete nos.
00:26:32 Cheetara Ritz
So, but yeah, so it's a slow process and we just keep going and we keep fighting.
00:26:38 Cheetara Ritz
Fight the good fight.
00:26:39 Mark Barley
So you mentioned in these ELT meetings, you're honest and you want that reciprocated.
00:26:46 Mark BarleyI'll put you on the spot here.
00:26:48 Mark Barley
Do you feel like you're getting that back from the administration of the college?
00:26:54 Cheetara Ritz
I feel like for the most part, right?
00:26:59 Cheetara Ritz
That's a really great question.
00:27:01 Cheetara Ritz
Of course you would ask me that, being the person that I am.
00:27:05 Cheetara Ritz
I feel like there's only so much that can be given, right?
00:27:13 Cheetara Ritz
So I feel like Dr.
00:27:15 Cheetara Ritz
Broadie
00:27:17 Cheetara Ritz
before Dr.
00:27:17 Cheetara Ritz
Broadie was Dr.
00:27:18 Cheetara Ritz
Sasser, right?
00:27:19 Cheetara Ritz
And like we never saw Dr.
00:27:21 Cheetara Ritz
Sasser at our meetings.
00:27:22 Cheetara RitzI never even had a conversation with Dr.
00:27:26 Cheetara Ritz
Sasser other than when I was on the moving crew and I was moving, you know, moving a
bunch of stuff, right?
00:27:32 Cheetara Ritz
I have had a conversation with Dr.
00:27:34 Cheetara Ritz
Broadie literally since the day he started at the college.
00:27:38 Cheetara Ritz
He knows who I am.
00:27:40 Cheetara Ritz
You know, I feel very comfortable talking to him and talking to him about
00:27:45 Cheetara Ritz
real life problems that I have, know what I'm saying?
00:27:48 Cheetara Ritz
And issues that there are there.
00:27:50 Cheetara Ritz
And I feel like he is as honest as he can be, if that makes sense.
00:27:56 Cheetara Ritz
And I feel like all of ELT is as honest as they can be.
00:28:01 Cheetara Ritz
Being in their positions, they can only do so much, right?
00:28:06 Cheetara Ritz
You know, I mean, let's be real.
00:28:07 Cheetara Ritz
This is, it's politics, right?00:28:10 Cheetara Ritz
So they can only be so real.
00:28:13 Cheetara Ritz
So I mean, I think that, like I said, I think they're as honest as they can be.
00:28:17 Mark Barley
Okay, no, I appreciate that answer.
00:28:19 Mark Barley
And I don't know if that'll appease folks, but it's a great perspective from you is because
you sit in front of these people.
00:28:28 Mark Barley
You have conversations with them.
00:28:31 Mark Barley
It's because a lot of the college does not, right?
00:28:34 Mark Barley
We acknowledge that is that a lot of the college doesn't get the opportunity
00:28:38 Mark Barley
to sit in front of all the vice presidents and the college president and kind of say, hey, this is
what's happening, right?
00:28:45 Mark Barley
This is the vibe.
00:28:47 Mark Barley
And so that's a very unique perspective, but it's also
00:28:52 Mark Barley
something that I don't take lightly, right, for you.
00:28:56 Mark Barley
And you all are the ones that have to do that.00:29:00 Mark Barley
And so I appreciate the fact that you sit in front of these people and you say, hey, this is
what it is.
00:29:05 Mark Barley
And you're not mincing words, right?
00:29:06 Cheetara Ritz
And it's actually gotten better.
00:29:08 Cheetara Ritz
What's really cool about the ELT presentations is in the beginning, I stood up in front of
everybody.
00:29:15 Cheetara Ritz
That was very nerve-wracking.
00:29:17 Cheetara Ritz
And Rhonda was like, well, why can't you just sit down with everybody?
00:29:20 Cheetara Ritz
So the next time we did, so Lisa and I joined them at the oval table and it feels like a very
free-flowing conversation, right?
00:29:32 Cheetara Ritz
Like we're just sitting there talking amongst colleagues,
00:29:37 Cheetara Ritz
Like there's no, there's no separation.
00:29:40 Cheetara Ritz
There's no like divide, right?
00:29:42 Cheetara Ritz
Even though you've got the president, you've got the VPs, you've got the provost, and then,
you know, you got, I'm the admin, the academic assistant.
00:29:50 Cheetara RitzIt doesn't feel like that.
00:29:51 Cheetara Ritz
It feels like we're all trying to achieve the same goals and we're all there for the same
reason.
00:29:57 Cheetara Ritz
We're just talking very free-flowing and that is what relieves my anxiety and that is what is
super helpful.
00:30:04 Cheetara Ritz
So I hope that kind of answers your question.
00:30:06 Mark Barley
It does.
00:30:07 Mark Barley
And it's, we have to remember that these are people doing jobs too, right?
00:30:16 Mark Barley
And they have jobs to do, right?
00:30:18 Mark Barley
And part of their job is to make decisions that impact
00:30:25 Mark Barley
the college as a whole.
00:30:26 Mark Barley
Exactly.
00:30:27 Lisa McNair
And we may not agree with them all the time.
00:30:29 Cheetara Ritz
Exactly.
00:30:29 Mark BarleyAnd largely we don't.
00:30:31 Mark Barley
I mean, to be honest, is that we largely don't is because career service is like you described
the worker bees of the college, right?
00:30:39 Mark Barley
They're the employees that are getting the day-to-day jobs done ground level, right?
00:30:45 Mark Barley
We're not talking 30,000 feet up.
00:30:47 Mark Barley
We're talking, hey, day-to-day, you know what has to get done.
00:30:51 Mark Barley
It's the people that move the college forward, right?
00:30:54 Mark Barley
And so it's important to, I guess, break the barrier down of, hey, those are people in the
ivory tower.
00:31:02 Lisa McNair
Right.
00:31:03 Mark Barley
I hear that a lot around the college of, hey, that's the administration.
00:31:08 Mark Barley
We don't know who they are.
00:31:09 Mark Barley
They don't know who I am and all that.
00:31:11 Mark Barley
may be true.
00:31:12 Mark BarleyThey may not know who everybody is, but it's also not a closed building either.
00:31:19 Mark Barley
And so quickly,
00:31:24 Mark Barley
What would you how would you promote career service moving forward?
00:31:30 Mark Barley
How would you how would you encourage people to get involved in career service?
00:31:34 Mark Barley
Lisa.
00:31:35 Lisa McNair
I would say that in all of our meetings we ask that they please join and that we have plenty
of vacancies and we would love for people to start volunteering to do some of the
committees so they can get involved and understand what career service really is and how
much it does help to have more people involved.
00:31:55 Mark Barley
Yeah, how would you star?
00:31:57 Cheetara Ritz
Well, if you're nosy like me, get involved and I think you should get involved, right?
00:32:01 Cheetara Ritz
So I have this thing where
00:32:04 Cheetara Ritz
I feel like you can't really truly complain about something if you're not really getting
involved in it and really trying to make a change, right?
00:32:11 Cheetara Ritz
So like I complain about a lot of things, but guess what?
00:32:14 Cheetara Ritz
I'm involved in a lot of things.00:32:16 Cheetara Ritz
You know what I'm saying?
00:32:16 Cheetara Ritz
So I think that, and you wanna know, right?
00:32:20 Cheetara Ritz
You wanna get your facts straight.
00:32:22 Cheetara Ritz
And so I think it's really important to be involved.
00:32:25 Cheetara Ritz
I have loved every moment that I've been at Career Service.
00:32:29 Cheetara Ritz
We're some pretty cool people.
00:32:31 Cheetara Ritz
So
00:32:32 Cheetara Ritz
I think, get involved, please.
00:32:36 Cheetara Ritz
I go in all the new employee orientations and talk to all the newbies and tell them to get
involved.
00:32:42 Cheetara Ritz
And I think connections, right, too.
00:32:46 Cheetara Ritz
The more you get involved in, the more connections you have.
00:32:49 Cheetara Ritz
If you plan on going anywhere else in the college, get involved so you can have those
connections.00:32:57 Cheetara Ritz
I've made so many connections, whether they're good or bad.
00:33:00 Cheetara Ritz
I have no idea, but I've made connections.
00:33:02 Cheetara Ritz
I'm going to tell you that much.
00:33:04 Cheetara Ritz
So yeah, I think getting involved is so important.
00:33:07 Cheetara Ritz
It really is.
00:33:08 Mark Barley
It is.
00:33:09 Mark Barley
And can I make a recommendation?
00:33:12 Cheetara Ritz
Yes, please.
00:33:15 Mark Barley
We got to stop Zoom.
00:33:16 Mark Barley
We got to stop the Zoom meetings.
00:33:18 Lisa McNair
We're going to start doing Teams now.
00:33:21 Cheetara Ritz
I thought you said we had to stop soon.
00:33:22 Cheetara Ritz
I'm like, soon?00:33:23 Cheetara Ritz
Okay.
00:33:25 Mark Barley
No, it's like the whole purpose of having these meetings.
00:33:29 Cheetara Ritz
Oh, you want to be all in person?
00:33:31 Mark Barley
I want to be all in person, man.
00:33:32 Mark Barley
Like, and then I'm talking and people are not going to like what I'm saying is that they don't
get
00:33:40 Mark Barley
heard on a Teams call, right?
00:33:44 Mark Barley
They don't, they just don't.
00:33:45 Mark Barley
You put whatever you want in the chat, right?
00:33:48 Mark Barley
There's so much that can be said in person and seeing somebody's face and how they
respond to constructive criticism or a question, right?
00:33:59 Mark Barley
I just, I attend every meeting in person and I look around the room and there's maybe 10
people, you know?
00:34:04 Mark Barley
But then you look online and there's like 30.
00:34:06 Mark Barley
You know, and that's disheartening to me is because00:34:11 Mark Barley
I would, I'd venture to say probably half of those or over half of those aren't really paying
attention to what's happening in the meeting.
00:34:16 Mark Barley
They're working.
00:34:17 Mark Barley
They're also working.
00:34:19 Lisa McNair
We would love to have more involvement in person.
00:34:22 Cheetara Ritz
Oh yeah, I wouldn't, we can't ever probably be fully in person just because we have got
different locations and there's so many factors about it, right?
00:34:32 Cheetara Ritz
But I mean, I would, dude, I would, and I feel the same way you feel.
00:34:38 Cheetara Ritz
I feel that way about so many different things
00:34:40 Cheetara Ritz
because I am very old school.
00:34:42 Cheetara Ritz
You cannot have a connection with somebody over a computer.
00:34:46 Cheetara Ritz
You cannot.
00:34:48 Cheetara Ritz
Your connection with a person is physically being
00:34:51 Cheetara Ritz
in the same room with that person, reading their body language, looking at them.00:34:56 Cheetara Ritz
I mean, that is where that connection comes from.
00:34:58 Cheetara Ritz
And if you don't have that connection with that person, then it's not that do you really care
about that person, but kind of sort of, right?
00:35:06 Cheetara Ritz
Like you're missing that piece.
00:35:08 Cheetara Ritz
So I would love to see, I would love to walk in one day and see the room full.
00:35:15 Cheetara Ritz
Like that is kind of, I know this sounds really stupid, but it's kind of like my dream when I go
00:35:21 Cheetara Ritz
Okay, how many people are gonna have and then I get so sad at the end when we have 10
people in there So please everybody come on man.
00:35:29 Cheetara Ritz
Make make my dream come true.
00:35:31 Cheetara Ritz
Yeah, it's kind of.
00:35:31 Lisa McNair
Sad to see that
00:35:34 Lisa McNair
when we have a problem, we can fill a room.
00:35:37 Lisa McNair
But then when we just have regular meetings, we can't get the room full.
00:35:41 Mark Barley
That is a good point.00:35:42 Lisa McNair
We would like to extend an invitation for everybody to come in person.
00:35:45 Cheetara Ritz
Yeah.
00:35:46 Mark Barley
I would love for, and it used to be like this, honestly.
00:35:49 Mark Barley
It used to be, College Senate, the room gets filled with College Senate.
00:35:53 Cheetara Ritz
I know, I was in a College Senate meeting just before I went on vacation.
00:35:56 Cheetara Ritz
I was like, oh my God.
00:35:57 Cheetara Ritz
I literally was talking to Heather because Heather went with me and I was like, dude, like,
look at all these people here.
00:36:03 Mark Barley
It's different.
00:36:04 Mark Barley
I understand that.
00:36:05 Mark Barley
But I too would love the room filled.
00:36:09 Mark Barley
All right.
00:36:10 Mark Barley
We're running long in the tooth here.
00:36:12 Mark BarleySo we're going to every episode I get on Steve because he doesn't have the game show
music yet.
00:36:21 Mark Barley
And one day I'm going to listen back to the podcast.
00:36:23 Mark Barley
There's going to be game show music right here.
00:36:25 Cheetara Ritz
Maybe this time.
00:36:26 Mark Barley
Maybe this time.
00:36:27 Lisa McNair
He's got the Family Feud game show music because we just did that at Professional
Development Day.
00:36:33 Mark Barley
All right.
00:36:34 Mark Barley
So I want you to give me the first answer off the top of your head.
00:36:38 Lisa McNair
Oh, man.
00:36:38 Mark Barley
Don't think anything about the question.
00:36:40 Mark Barley
I'm going to go just one at a time.
00:36:42 Mark Barley
All right.
00:36:44 Mark BarleyLisa, Shatar, are you ready?
00:36:45 Cheetara Ritz
Yeah.
00:36:45 Mark Barley

00:36:46 Mark Barley

00:36:49 Lisa McNair

00:36:52 Lisa McNair

00:36:56 Mark Barley

00:36:59 Cheetara Ritz

00:37:02 Cheetara Ritz
Oh God, come on now.
00:37:03 Cheetara Ritz
Oh my lord, I can't hear you.
00:37:06 Mark Barley
It's 5 quick questions.
00:37:08 Cheetara RitzOkay, admissions because I'm here.
00:37:10 Cheetara Ritz

00:37:10 Mark Barley

00:37:12 Cheetara Ritz

00:37:13 Cheetara Ritz

00:37:14 Cheetara Ritz
I love you all.
00:37:15 Mark Barley
Dead to her.
00:37:15 Mark Barley
Dead to her.
00:37:17 Mark Barley
All right.
00:37:18 Mark Barley

00:37:25 Lisa McNairThe last, oh my God, I have no idea.
00:37:27 Lisa McNair

00:37:32 Mark Barley
Okay, Moana.

00:37:55 Cheetara Ritz
Look at my cup.
00:37:56 Cheetara Ritz
What would Dolly do?
00:37:58 Cheetara Ritz
It says, what would Dolly, look, I turned it for you.
00:38:00 Cheetara Ritz
There you go.

00:38:14 Cheetara Ritz

00:38:17 Mark Barley
You're missing the obvious one.
00:38:18 Mark Barley
That's the only reason I asked this question.
00:38:20 Cheetara Ritz
The Thunder Cats.
00:38:20 Mark BarleyThe Thunder Cats.
00:38:22 Cheetara Ritz
Okay, there you go.

00:38:31 Cheetara Ritz

00:38:33 Cheetara Ritz
Mark says it all the time.
00:38:34 Cheetara Ritz
He's like, everybody says people.
00:38:35 Cheetara Ritz
Everybody does say people.
00:38:37 Cheetara Ritz
People, yes, I love Santa Fe because of the people.
00:38:40 Cheetara Ritz
I love Santa Fe because I can move around.
00:38:43 Cheetara RitzI love that I can walk across campus and there's always somebody I know and I can chat
to.
00:38:51 Cheetara Ritz
I love it.
00:38:51 Lisa McNair
So in shorter words, people.
00:38:53 Cheetara Ritz
I was trying not to say just people.
00:38:58 Mark Barley
Okay.
00:38:59 Mark Barley
Lisa, how can anybody learn more about career service, get in contact with you,
00:39:07 Mark Barley
Give them your details.
00:39:08 Lisa McNair
I am in P building in 146.
00:39:11 Lisa McNair
My phone number is 5372.
00:39:13 Lisa McNair
And of course the e-mail address, everyone knows that.
00:39:16 Lisa McNair
So, and my door is always open.
00:39:18 Mark Barley
Okay.
00:39:19 Mark Barley
Shatara, how can folks get involved that aren't in career service?00:39:23 Cheetara Ritz
That aren't in career service, they can do Friends of Career Service.
00:39:27 Cheetara Ritz
And so when you donate to Friends of Career Service, that goes into
00:39:32 Cheetara Ritz
the Career Service account, the budget, and it supports families.
00:39:38 Cheetara Ritz
We do a family fund in case it's an emergency fund.
00:39:41 Cheetara Ritz
We adopt a family for holidays.
00:39:44 Cheetara Ritz
And then we also do Career Service scholarships for Career Service employees going back
to school.
00:39:49 Cheetara Ritz
And also, if you are a friend of Career Service, you also get to come to our parties and we
throw some pretty killer parties.
00:39:58 Cheetara Ritz
We've got a spring party.
00:39:59 Cheetara Ritz
we do the spring picnic and then we have a holiday party and we just jam out and eat lots of
good food and so that's how you can become involved if you're not a Career Service
employee.
00:40:09 Mark Barley
All right.
00:40:11 Mark Barley
Lisa Chatara, thank you so much for coming.
00:40:13 Mark BarleyThank you.
00:40:13 Mark Barley
Thanks for having us.
00:40:14 Cheetara Ritz
This was so much fun.
00:40:16 Mark Barley
I hope, you know, your time as Career Service representatives, president, vice president,
you continue to push this body of employees forward and thank you for what you do.
00:40:26 Lisa McNair
We're going to try so hard.
00:40:29 Lisa McNair
Thank you.
